An Open Operating Approach

Local acceptance and effective stakeholder cooperation are critical for progressing the Sakatti Project. The importance of community support is also emphasised in the principles of the company's social performance framework (Social Way).

Interaction with local residents, local and regional authorities, reindeer herders, landowners, and other land users is important to us, and our aim is to continuously develop cooperation throughout the entire life cycle of the mining project.

We value the views and suggestions of our stakeholders regarding the project. We believe that by listening, asking questions, and engaging in dialogue with different stakeholders, we can achieve the best possible outcome.

Diverse Stakeholder Engagement Activities

We regularly communicate on our activities, operations and current project topics at public events. At these events, we have discussed, for example, various field activities carried out in the area as well as the different stages of our permitting processes.

At our traditional Sakatti Open Doors event, visitors have had the opportunity to learn about the work that the various departments in our company do and to discuss directly with our experts.

At the village meetings we organise, we also provide updates on the progress of the mining project as well as current fieldwork related to exploration drilling, mineral exploration, and other activities.

In addition, we have organised ecosystem services workshops in the villages of Sattanen and Moskuvaara within the project area. In these workshops, we have mapped which ecosystem services — the benefits provided by nature — are considered the most important and how any lost ecosystem services should be compensated in the villages and surrounding areas. Planning for ecosystem service compensation continues as part of our ecological compensation work.

We also actively participate in joint public events organised locally.

Stakeholder Cooperation Guided by Stakeholder Expectations

We actively organise stakeholder events and seek out a variety of communication and feedback channels. All feedback we receive from the community — especially the expression of any concerns — helps us to improve our operations.

Feedback can be provided via the feedback form on our website or by contacting our designated contact persons.

Committed to a Long-Term Project

Sakatti will bring wellbeing and vitality particularly to Northern Finland for decades, and we are committed to the long-term development of the region's vitality. The opportunities offered by Sakatti also involve responsibility for sustainable regional development, and we take this responsibility seriously.

We work closely with other companies operating in the region, local and national authorities, and local communities to develop the project responsibly and to ensure that local services and infrastructure can support this development.

The cooperation agreement concerning collaboration between the Municipality of Sodankylä and the Sakatti Project, signed in February 2026, establishes a framework for interaction and joint planning between the parties throughout the life cycle of the mine. The shared objective is to establish a cooperation group during 2026 to promote dialogue, transparency, and trust between the project and the communities that may be impacted by it.

Supporting the Local Community

Supporting the local business community is important to us, and wherever possible, we prioritise purchasing from local suppliers and service providers.

We also believe it is important that the local community benefits from the project, and we are pleased to support local activities and events. Registered clubs and associations may apply to us for sponsorship, and our sponsorship team evaluates applications in line with the values and priority areas guiding our sponsorship activities.

We do not support activities or events that are harmful to the environment, nor political or religious organisations or events. We also do not sponsor events that involve gambling or betting. All sponsorship activities must align with Anglo American's general principles of business conduct.

Read more about our sponsorship principles on the company's website.

Please submit applications for support for events or activities well in advance. We kindly ask that applications are submitted as early as possible, and at least two months before the planned start of the event or activity.
