Anglo American confirms increased Mineral Resources at its Sakatti deposit in Finland
03 March, 2025
Anglo American has updated its Mineral Resource estimates of the Sakatti copper dominant polymetallic deposit in Sodankylä, Finland. Sakatti’s Mineral Resources now total approximately 157 million tonnes compared with the previous estimate of approximately 44 million tonnes.
The Mineral Resource estimate consists of approximately 41 million tonnes of Indicated Mineral Resources and approximately 116 million tonnes of Inferred Mineral Resources. The copper content of the Mineral Resources is estimated to be approximately 1.2 million tonnes, which is approximately 39 percent more than earlier estimate. The updated estimate confirms the information used for the basis of project planning, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Natura assessment.
“The updated Mineral Resources serve to confirm our current permitting plan and project schedule. The latest studies have enhanced our understanding of the orebody and improved the confidence of the resources that we have used as the basis for planning the project. We have sufficient certainty about the adequacy of Mineral Resources for approximately twenty years of mining operations and have applied for a mining permit for that period. Next, we will continue dialogue with the community and key stakeholders in the necessary permit processes”, says Pertti Lamberg, CEO of Anglo American's Finnish subsidiary.
Anglo American commenced mineral exploration activities in Lapland in 2004. Since then, the company has completed more than 242 kilometres of drilling. Anglo American discovered the Sakatti deposit in 2009.
Sakatti Mineral Resources have been reported in accordance with the guidelines of the JORC 2012 (Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves) reporting code.
