Statements by the Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) and Metsähallitus on the Natura Derogation Permit for the Sakatti Project
02 October, 2026
The Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) and Metsähallitus today, 2 October 2026, published their statements on the plan for compensatory measures addressing the environmental impacts of the Sakatti Project.
The statements are related to the Sakatti phased regional land-use plan proposal prepared by the Regional Council of Lapland and form part of the Natura derogation process being considered by the Finnish Government.
“We have prepared a comprehensive compensation plan that provides a sufficient basis for decision-making regarding a derogation from Natura protection requirements. We will now carefully review the statements issued by the Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV) and Metsähallitus. The valuable feedback they contain will help us further develop the compensation plan as the project progresses,” says Pertti Lamberg, CEO of Anglo American’s Finnish subsidiary.
The Finnish Government, which is responsible for deciding on the Natura derogation permit, has requested statements on the compensatory measures plan from the EU, Metsähallitus, and the Finnish Supervisory Agency (LVV).
